One to Watch - Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday December 13

Set to hit 100 Australian winners for the season some time this week, Zoustar has been in overdrive since the start of the month siring winners all over the world and there was an interesting winner at Southwell in the UK overnight bred by Widden Stud and raced by a partnership headed by Suman Hedge.

It had to be owned by Aussies! Two year-old colt Sir Les Patterson was having his second start in the 7f maiden and the Harry Eustace trained youngster led all the way and kicked on to win by a length and a quarter.

Sir Les Patterson was offered at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 last year where he was bought by Suman Hedge for 85,000 guineas. He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Harmony Rose and is the second winner from stakes-winning Dutch Art mare Evil Spell, who has since been on-sold by Widden.

Sir Les Patterson was bought as a yearling by Suman Hedge.

Widden Stud’s flagship sire Zoustar is enjoying a benchmark year in 2023 with 18 stakes-winners worldwide in five different countries headed by his Australian Group I winners Ozzmosis and Joliestar.

He has big representation at upcoming sales starting with 45 yearlings at Magic Millions.
