The Aussie Army Grows on Day 2 of Tattersalls December Mares Sale

After being active on the opening day of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, Kia Ora Stud, Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock, and Australian Bloodstock were back in action while Yulong, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Mick Price, First Light Racing, Ontrack Thoroughbreds, and China Horse Club entered the fray.

Lot 1801 Tierra (IRE) (Dubawi x Tyranny by Machiavellian) Purchaser: Lucky Vega 540,000 gns.

Carrying a positive test to Frankel, Tierra is an unraced half-sister to Group 1 winner and successful sire Zoffany, Group II winner and Group 1 Irish Derby runner-up Rostapovich, and Group III winner Wiltshire Boulevard.

Tierra has a yearling colt by American Pharoah and a weanling colt by Frankel.

Lot 1752  Fraxinella (GB) (Frankel (GB) x Lucky Kristale by Lucky Story) Purchaser: Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock / Badgers Bloodstock 440,000 gns.

An unraced sister to Group II-placed winner Bravais, Fraxinella carries a positive test to Kingman.

Her dam Lucky Kristale won the Group II Lowther Stakes and Group II Duchess of Cambridge Stakes and is a half-sister to the champion Galileo filly Love, whose seven wins included the Prince of Wales's Stakes, Moyglare Stud Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks, Epsom Oaks, and 1000 Guineas.

Lot 1809  Secret Angel (IRE) (Dark Angel x Meydan Princess by Choisir) Purchaser: Kia Ora Stud 420,000 gns.

The tough and talented Secret Angel won three of seven starts at two, including the Listed Prix Zeddaan at Deauville and was four-times stakes-placed in a winless 3-year-old season.

Her dam Meydan Princess was a stakes-winner in England and America.

Lot 1778 Alina (IRE) (Galileo x Cheyenne Star by Mujahid) Purchaser: Lucky Vega 400,000 gns.

Carrying a positive test to Kingman, Alina is the dam of Barney Roy, who won four Group 1’s, the St James's Palace Stakes, Grosser Preis von Baden, Bayerisches Zuchtrennen, and Jebel Hatta, Meydan.

Lot 1814 Hooked On You (IRE) (Starspangledbanner x Plying by Hard Spun) Purchaser: Lucky Vega 400,000 gns.

Hooked On You carries a positive test to No Nay Never, which is significant as the daughter of Starspangledbanner is a half-sister to Yulong’s record purchase Alcohol Free, a 4-time Group 1 winning daughter of No Nay Never.

Lot 1727 Podium (IRE) (Galileo x Missvinski by Stravinsky) Purchaser: Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock / Badgers Bloodstock 375,000 gns.

Carrying a positive test to Wootton Bassett, Podium is an unraced sister to Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Peaceful and the Listed winner Easter out of the Listed winner and Group 1 runner-up Missvinski.

Easter sold for 800,000 gns in this ring in 2019.

Podium has a weanling colt by Starspangledbanner.

Lot 1820 Zain Claudette (IRE) (No Nay Never (USA) x Claudette by Speightstown) Purchaser: Kia Ora Stud 260,000 gns.

The winner of the Group II Lowther Stakes at  York and Group III Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, Zain Claudette is out of a 4-time winning daughter of Martha Washington Stakes winner Tippity Witch.

Lot 1671 Le Mans (IRE) (Kodiac x Diaminda by Diamond Green) Purchaser: MG Price Racing & Breeding/D Farrington 250,000 gns.

A winner at Newmarket and Salisbury in four starts this season for Richard Hannon, Le Mans is a half-sister to Lusail, winner of the Group II Gimcrack Stakes at York and Group II July Stakes at Newmarket, and was second in St James's Palace Stakes at Ascot.

Lot 1749 Spanish Intent (GB) (Acclamation x Panzanella by (Dansili) Purchaser China Horse Club 250,000 gns.

The winner of two and stakes-placed at Longchamp in seven starts at two, Spanish Intent carries a positive test to Churchill.

She is a half-sister to Group III-placed winner Ricetta out of a sister to Group III winner Remote and a half-sister to 4-time Group 1 winner and successful stallion Kingman.

Lot 1802 Vernichey (SAF) (Vercingetorix x Pirate Queen by Captain Al) Purchaser: Kia Ora Stud 250,000 gns.

A Group 1 winner in South Africa, Vernichey has a pedigree very familiar in Australia.

Her dam Giant’s Slipper is an unraced daughter of Newhaven Park Stud’s mighty filly Burst, who claimed the two-year-old Triple Crown.

Lot 1678 Alalcance (GB) (Mastercraftsman x Albamara by Galileo) Purchaser: McKeever Bloodstock / Waterhouse Bott Racing 240,000 gns.

Runner-up in two of her first three starts, Alalcance broke her maiden by four lengths at the Curragh on October 23.

From one of Lanwades Stud’s greatest families,  Alalcance is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to Alwilda, dam of the sensational Arc winner Alpinista.

Lot 1670 Understated (GB) (Nathaniel x Catalyst by Makfi) Purchaser: Australian Bloodstock / Ronald Rauscher 210,000 gns.

Campaigned almost exclusively in stakes races this season at three, Understated closed out her season with a Listed win over 10f at Saint-Cloud on October 30 when carrying the Australian Bloodstock silks.

A €67,000 graduate from the 2021 BBAG September Sale, Understated is out of a daughter of the Champion 2yo filly in Ireland in 1996, Bianca Nera, winner of the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Lot 1823 Nigh (IRE) (Galileo x Native Force by Indian Ridge) Purchaser: Lucky Vega 200,000 gns.

Carrying a positive test to Too Darn Hot, Nigh is the dam of Fastnet Rock’s Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Via Sistina, who was sold at the same session for 2,700,000 gns.

Nigh is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Kingsgate Native.

Lot 1837 Mistressofillusion (IRE) (Mastercraftsman x Il Palazzo by Giant’s Causeway) Purchaser: Blandford Bloodstock / Ontrack Thoroughbreds 150,000 gns

A winner at Doncaster and Kempton and placed in three of seven starts for Ralph Beckett, 3-year-old filly Mistressofillusion is a sister to the stakes-winner Still Standing from the family of Xaar.

Lot 1652 Poutchek (GB) (Ulysses x Panova by Invincible Spirit) Purchaser: Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock / First Light Racing 40,000 gns.

Poutchek placed in all three starts this season at three.

Her dam Panova is a sister to Group III winner Potapova and half-sister to Exceed and Excel’s Group III Fred Darling Stakes winner Marenko.
