US Bred Mares Enjoy Flemington Cup Day Stakes Success

With the major North American breeding stock sales underway in Kentucky the impact of US bred mares was highlighted at Flemington on Tuesday with stakes-winners Odeon, Ocean Embers and Pedrena all produced from mares carrying the USA suffix.

Kiwi bred four year-old Odeon scored a dominant two length win in the Listed VRC James Boag Premium Stakes (1800m), his sixth win from 16 starts.



By the young Dansili sire Zacinto (GB), Odeon is from French winning Theatrical mare Theatre Buff (USA), a grand-daughter of Grade II winner Chapel of Dreams, a three-quarter sister to legendary sire Storm Cat.

Five year-old Beneteau mare Ocean Embers scored her sixth win from 16 starts when taking out the Listed VRC MSS Security Stakes (1200m)by a length, her third stakes success with two previous coming in Group II events.



A half-sister to Japanese Group III winner Fireflaught, she is from Tabasco Cat mare Burningwood (USA), a daughter of Group II winner Wood So.

Four year-old Mossman mare Pedrena closed the program with a tenacious win in the Group III HKJC Stakes (1400m), her fifth win from 10 starts and first in a Black Type race.



She is from Hansom Cab (USA), an unraced half-sister by Awesome Again to stakes-winner Moments of Magic.
