Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 29

A Zoustar filly from a Group I family, Ginger ‘n’ Pink cast off maiden status with an easy win at Sandown on Wednesday at her first run back from a spell.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Ginger ‘n’ Pink had four starts earlier this year for two placings, but was wayward at times and couldn’t quite break through.

A stronger and more seasoned filly this time around, albeit still with some issues to improve on, she justified favouritism for the 1200m maiden when cruising clear for Thomas Stockdale to win by a length and a half.

The yearling filly by Ole Kirk from Dancers will be offered in the North consignment at Magic Millions as Lot 561.

“Being her first start back and being a little bit wound up and still maturing, she was still very unruly in the early and middle stages of the race, so I elected to pop out and let her build momentum and get into a comfortable rhythm and she had a bit of class on these today. I think when she irons out that kink she’ll be able to go on with it,” said Thomas Stockdale.

Ginger ‘n’ Pink was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Moody Racing from the Kitchwin Hills draft and runs for an ownership group that includes her breeder Neil Werrett.
She is the second winner from winning Husson (Arg) mare Dancers, who was also bred and raced by Werrett and comes from a family he has nurtured with great success tracing back to stakes-placed Wiener, the half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) to Snitzel and Hinchinbrook. Current stars f rom this family are Group I ATC Epsom Handicap winner Rediener and $9.4million earning Group I winning sprinter Private Eye.

A check with Breednet’s new Family Search shows there are five yearlings for upcoming sales from this super successful family and you can see them here.
