Is it any wonder Godolphin likes to travel Qewy (IRE) to Australia where in four starts he has netted over $700,00 of his total earnings of $875,000 from 28 starts?.
The 8yo son of Street Cry (IRE) made the trip down under for the second time, kick-starting his campaign in Wednesday's $300,000 Group III Jayco Bendigo Cup (2400m) and the result was the same as 12 months ago when he successfully debuted in the Group III Geelong Cup.
While he led every step of the way at Geelong, Qewy was given a more patient ride by Kerrin McEvoy.
Settled back in fourth place in the running line, McEvoy made his move on the point of the turn. Every move he made was covered by Damien Lane of Kiwia.
The two settled down to fight out the finish. While Kiwia made up ground quickly to get within a neck of Qewy he could go no further. The Charlie Appleby-trained gelding held a half-neck advantage on the line with Foundry four and a quarter length away in third.
Appleby won the race 12 months ago with Francis Of Assisi and continues his remarkable strike rate in Cups races in Australia, which includes Polarisation winning the Sydney Cup at Randwick in April and Folkswood the Cranbourne Cup before his fighting third in the Cox Plate.
After winning the last year's Geelong Cup, Qewy finished fourth in the Melbourne Cup before ending his financially rewarding Australian campaign with a win in the Sandown Cup.
"There was a couple of moments where my heart was in my mouth but he stays all day," Appleby's travelling foreman Chris Connett told broadcaster racing.com.
"In the last couple of weeks,
A start in next week's Melbourne Cup will be left up to Appleby.
"We'll make sure he pulls up fine first," Connett said.
McEvoy rode Qewy to win at Geelong and Sandown last year but is already committed to German stayer Red Cardinal in the Melbourne Cup.
"It was nice to get on the back of this horse again, he was
"It's a big call whether to run him in the Cup but he stays so well so it's up to Charlie and he'd have to be a top 10 chance in the Cup."
A three-quarter brother to Group II Lancashire Oaks winner Emirates Queen and half-brother to the Listed stakes winner Jordan Princess (Cape Cross), Qewy is a son of the deceased Street Cry (IRE) out of the stakes winningBarathea mare Princess Nada who is a half-sister to Darley's outstanding stallion Dubawi.
