One to Watch – Kembla

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 7

On the day Frankel had his Northern Hemisphere fee at Juddmonte Farms raised to £350,000 (A$670,759) and almost sired a Melbourne Cup winner with Soulcombe (GB) a gallant second, he also gave us a One to Watch at Kembla with a debut win for a blue-blood filly from champion mare More Joyous.

John Singleton sold a lot of horses and his prized Strawberry Hill Stud earlier this year, but he didn’t get rid of everything and one that escaped the exodus was three year-old Frankel filly The Hawkesbury, who opened her career with a facile victory.

Trained by Clarry Conners, The Hawkesbury won a Rosehill trial last month and ran up to that form when powering home from back in the field to bolt away and take the 1200m maiden by three and a half lengths.

The Hawkesbury is a half-sister to Group II placed Joyous Legend and is the fifth winner from five foals to race from eight time Group I winner More Joyous, who was sold in the dispersal for $450,000 to Yulong, who also purchased Woman, an older winning full sister to The Hawkesbury for $575,000.

Champion mare More Joyous now calls Yulong home.

If you want to track the family of More Joyous don’t forget to follow her on Breednet Blackbook to track all her relatives going forward.
