First Win for Turangga Farm Blueblood

A homebred for Turangga Farm, speedy filly Empress Matilda opened her account with a brilliant front running victory at Canterbury on Friday night.

Empress Matilda as a yearlingSecond on debut at Warwick Farm on October 11, the Hawkes Racing trained filly stripped fitter this time around and led all the way to win the 1100 metre maiden by half a length.

A full sister to Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Headway, Empress Matilda was passed in shy of a $300,000 reserve at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Turangga Farm and retained to race in partnership.

By Charge Forward, Empress Matilda is the third winner from Group II placed Flying Spur mare Chatelaine, who was covered again by Charge Forward last year.
