Sidestep Comes Surging Back

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 19

Value Queensland sire Sidestep has a strong crop of three year-olds to run for him this season conceived in the year his daughter Kiamichi won the Golden Slipper and already they are making an impact putting him at the top of the Queensland based sires by three year-olds for winners and earnings.

For the first time in a long time, Sidestep has a good number of runners to put him on the playing field with some of his Queensland peers and the Telemon Thoroughbreds based son of Exceed and Excel is making his presence felt.

Leading the charge for Sidestep has been hugely talented filly Party For Two, who made everyone sit up and take notice with a four-and-a-three-quarter length romp over 1000m in a sizzling 56.28 at Eagle Farm on Saturday in her first start since May 20.

The O'Dea/Hoysted-trained Party for Two was one of the state's smartest juveniles, winning races at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast as well as finishing second to Exploring in the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude when trained by Damien Batters.

With three wins from eight starts and prizemoney topping $260,000, Party for Two looks set for a great campaign with part-owner and breeder Dan Fletcher of Telemon Thoroughbreds excited for the future.

“Based on respected analyst Daniel O’Sullivan’s ratings, Party for Two returned a 97 when dominating at Eagle Farm last Saturday,” Fletcher said.

“This rating placed her in the top five 3YO performances of the day nationally across a huge day’s racing which included The Everest and the Caulfield Guineas. She went within 0.14 seconds of an Eagle Farm track record carrying some 56kg (5kg above WFA) first up and appears to have improvement given her previous peak performances have been after a run or two.

“We think her sire Sidestep remains underrated and is doing a great job. His current 3YO crop, which were sired in 2019 following the win of Kiamichi in the Golden Slipper represent one of the few instances in his stud career where he has numbers anywhere near his rivals.”
