One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 26
A half-sister to a Group I winner by champion racehorse So You Think, this filly surprised a few punters with her barnstorming win at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

Discreet Charm as a yearlingPrepared by John Thompson for a syndicate of Proven Thoroughbreds owners, Discreet Charm was specced at long odds and finished full of running to win the 1300 metre maiden by a length and three-quarters at her second start.

The race was a battle of the blue-bloods with Discreet Charm defeating a half-sister to Group I winner Alverta and a half-sister to Group I winner Lucky Bubbles.

A $170,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden stud draft for Proven Thoroughbreds/ John Thompson Racing, Discreet Charm is a half-sister to Group I ATC Spring Champion Stakes winner Vanbrugh.

She is the third winner from Soho Secret, a winning daughter of super producer Professionelle, who has left 11 winners headed by Group winners Sportsman, Prisoner of Love, Hoystar and stakes-winner and sire King of Prussia.

This family has also produced recent Kiwi Group I winners Sacred Star and Diademe, so Discreet Charm has a big pedigree that will one day make her a very valuable broodmare, particularly if she can gain Black Type.
