Giant's Steps Moving to Moorookyle Park Thoroughbreds

Media Release - Thursday October 19

Moorookyle Park Thoroughbreds is delighted to announce the addition of the very handsome, very talented and very well bred Giant's Steps (Arg)  to the 2023 roster.

Giant's Steps (Arg)
The Champion 3Y0 Colt Of Chile Giant's Steps won five of his 14 starts, competing at the elite level on five occasions - winning two of those, placing at the other three.
Proving himself both classy and versatile, he won at debut over 1200m whilst his two Gr.1 victories came over 1700m and 2400m - and he was also able to win a Gr.2 race over 2000m.

Just the sort of tough, adaptable horse every owner dreams of!

To date serving only small books of mares, Giant's Steps is a horse who has been somewhat overlooked by broodmare owners but we urge you to take a second glance at a horse with outstanding credentials for the owner/breeder.

Not only was he a high class racehorse, but he has the looks (swoon-worthy really!) and the pedigree. He sire is the Cartier Horse Of The Year Giant's Causeway; a horse never out of the first two who won nine of his 13 - seven of those at Gr.1 level.

And what a remarkable stallion he proved to be, earning three American Champion Sire premierships with his 200 individual stakes winners... 37 of whom are Gr.1 winners. And he has set up some dynasty with an amazing 60 of his male line descendants siring stakes winners.

Such as Shamardal and Lope de Vega who have both made their mark in this part of the world.

There is stallion success in Giant's Steps' family as well with his grandam being a 3/4 sister to the wonderful horse Hussonet who - like this lad - has Chilean ties having kicked off his career in South America before being snapped up by Arrowfield Stud.

Siring 99 stakes winners, Hussonet did a fantastic job with his 30 Gr.1 winners including the star Weekend Hussler... and mares from his line are certainly a very interesting prospect for Giant's Steps who provides the opportunity to line-breed to the wonderful mare Sacahuista.

One of the best mares of her generation, Sacahuista did not race outside of Group company, winning six of her 21 starts, three of which were Gr.1 races including the prestigious Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Well and truly making her mark at stud, Sacahuista produced two successful stallions - Hussonet as well as the Gr.1 winner Ekraar who from limited opportunity in New Zealand was able to sire four Gr.1 winners including the star mare Shez Sinsational.

Giant's Steps' family is one which has been producing topliners for generations - its other members including the big race winners Santa Ana Lane, Geri, Raging Fever, Meneval, Levee, Shuvee, Bayou, Free Eagle, Trusted Partner, Dress To Thrill and Vert de Grace - as well as another successful stallion in Stormin' Fever.

Giant's Steps' dam is by the Gr.1 winning Hennessy, a highly successful sire of 71 stakes winners who is doing a great job as a broodmare sire with his daughters producing another 83 stakes winners; ten in Gr.1 company.

Giant's Steps is bred on a 2 X 3 cross of his own sire, the remarkable Storm Cat who broke numerous records at stud including service fee. A stallion of great influence, he sired 178 stakes winners including 36 Group One winners.

The first Gr.1 winning son of Giant's Causeway to stand at stud in Victoria, Giant's Steps has impressed Moorookyle's Nioka Wozny who describes him as "an eye-catching horse who is very neat and correct."

"He has a great temperament, he has settled in so well and is such a content, happy and fuss free horse."
