A full sister to Group II winner Paris Dior, three yea-old Pierro filly Queen of Dragons chased home glamour colts Militarize and Red Resistance in her first preparation and cast off maiden status at Randwick on Wednesday.
Having her second run back from a spell, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly settled nicely for Dylan Gibbons and powered to the line to surge clear and win the 1400m maiden by more than a length.
“She ran second to Militarize at her second start, so you’d have to say she’s been a bit disappointing and I thought she would have won a race by now,” said Peter Snowdem.
“The winkers on and the 1400m race suited her and Dylan rode her really well, so it was a very pleasing effort all round.”
A $330,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Marquee Stud for Trilogy Racing / CB Bloodstock, Queen of Dragons will be amost valuable broodmare for the future with her full Group II winning sister Paris Dior selling to Tom Magnier earlier this year at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $1.6million.
Queen of Dragons is the second winner from winning Exceed and Excel mare Entrancing, a grand-daughter of smart stakes-winner Nanny Maroon, the dam of Group II winner De Lightning Ridge.
Entrancing was not surprisingly covered again last year by Pierro.
