Cox Plate winning sire Adelaide (IRE) featured at the big Toowoomba meeting on Saturday when Tony and Maddy Sears scored a popular hometown win in the $100,000 Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) with improving three year-old Adelad.
Adelad made his debut at the same meeting last year when second in the $85,000 Pat O’Shea Plate, the first Queensland juvenile race of the season, and has trained on well since then.
A last start winner at Eagle Farm over 1500m, he relished the slightly longer trip to forge clear and win by two lengths.
Retained to race by his breeders, Adelad has won three of nine starts earning nearly $190,000 in prizemoney.
He is the first foal of Elsaray, a five time winner by Red Dazzler that traces back to the family of Golden Slipper winners Rory’s Jester and Ha Ha as well as Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed.
By champion sire Galileo, Adelaide is a bargain priced option on the Coolmore roster at just $5,500.
