A last start winner over Cox Plate contender Light Infantry when capturing the Group III Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock, tough and talented Wootton Bassett stallion Chindit claimed another Black Type win on a quick back up overnight taking out the Listed Fortune Stakes (1m) at Sandown.
Trained by Richard Hannon, Chindit has been racing in top form this year with a second in the Group I Newbury Lockinge Stakes and several stakes wins.
This latest success was in the colours of his new owner Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, who will stand Chindit at his stud in India next year.
He was tenacious to the line for Pat Dobbs winning by a head to take his overall record to nine wins and four placings from 22 starts and has been a Group winner at two, three, four and five!
“I’m delighted with that. It is nice for Pat, as he has ridden him in every race apart from two. He doesn’t love that ground and he had a 5lb penalty today,” said Richard Hannon.
“He is one of the biggest allies our yard has had for years. He has run in all these good races and turns up on every occasion. He never runs a bad race. He is a pleasure to have.”
Chindit was a 65,000 guinea purchases from the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is the first winner for Always a Dream, a winning Oasis Dream mare from the family of Group I Epsom Derby winner Motivator.
His sire Wootton Bassett is back in Australia this spring at Coolmore at a fee of $93,500 and will have his first yearlings selling in 2024.
