Joe Pride might have retired his perennial sprint king Eduardo, but will still have two runners in the $20million Everest with last Saturday’s Group II The Shorts winner Private Eye to join his stablemate Think About It in the world’s richest sprint.
A tough and versatile six year-old gelding by Al Maher, Private Eye shot to fame winning the Group I ATC Epsom Handicap in 2021, but has found even better form as a specialist sprinter with a lethal finishing burst finishing second in last year’s Everest to Giga Kick.
He was snapped up by slot-holders Max Whitby and Neil Werrett. They have twice finished second in The Everest with Vega Magic (2017) and Masked Crusader (2021).
Both Private Eye and Think About It were purchased as yearlings by Proven Thoroughbreds / Pride Racing.
Private Eye came out of the Goodwood Farm draft at the Adelaide Magic Millions for just $62,500 and Think About It was bought for $70,000 from the Newgate draft at Inglis Premier.
There are now six of 12 slots filled for The Everest with other confirmed horses being Giga Kick, I Wish I Win, Mazu and Sunshine in Paris.
