NZB Ready to Run Sale Catalogue Stacked With Quality

Media Release - Tuesday September 12

Buyers are drawn to New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale every year by the remarkable racetrack performances of previous graduates, as well as the vendors’ renowned ability to nurture young talent. But if those two drawcards weren’t enough, an outstanding selection of pedigrees should provide plenty of other reasons to be at Karaka on 22 and 23 November.

Among the highest-profile entries in the catalogue is Lot 116, who is a half-brother to Hong Kong’s sprinting superstar Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) (Sweynesse). This colt by Contributer is being offered by Woburn Farm on behalf of breeders Luigi Muollo, Allan Sharrock and Paul Dombroski.

The sale features the half-brother to champion sprinter Lucky Sweynesse.

The dam of Lot 116 is Madonna Mia (NZ) (Red Clubs), who herself won nine races up to Listed level and is the dam of two Group One performers from three foals to race. Signora Nera (NZ) (Sweynesse) placed in the Group One Queensland Oaks (2200m), while Lucky Sweynesse has swept all before him in Hong Kong.

From 18 starts, Lucky Sweynesse has recorded 13 wins for earnings in excess of HK$45m. He scored scintillating victories in this year’s Group One Centenary Sprint Cup (1200m), Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) and Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m).

Another Group One sibling in the Ready to Run Sale catalogue is Lot 298 – a Super Seth filly from the draft of Kilgravin Lodge. She is a half-sister to Kovalica (NZ) (Ocean Park), who has been a brilliant winner of six of his nine starts in Australia for champion trainer Chris Waller, including the Group One Queensland Derby (2400m), Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) and Group Three Grand Prix (2100m). He also ran a gallant third against elite older opposition in the Group One Doomben Cup (2000m).

Further Group One glow comes from Riversley Park’s Lot 69, who is a half-brother to the multiple Group One winner and successful sire Kermadec (NZ) (Teofilo), and Lot 215, whose half-sister Lizzie L’Amour (NZ) (Zabeel) won twice at the elite level. Lot 279 is a half-brother to the dual Group One winner Tiptronic (NZ) (O’Reilly).

Buyers will also have access to the progeny of top-class racemares such as Igraine (Galileo), Quintessential (NZ) (Fast ‘N’ Famous), Full Of Spirit (Flying Spur), Guiseppina (NZ) (Johar), Irish Fling (NZ) (Darci Brahma), Kebede (Redoute’s Choice), Pecans (Skilled), Perfect Fit (NZ) (Elusive City), Tully Thunder (Thunder Gulch), A Touch Of Ruby (NZ) (Pins) and many more.

Exciting up-and-comers

Another notable feature of the Ready to Run Sale catalogue is a collection of siblings to emerging talents who are poised to make a major impact on the racetrack between now and November.

  • Lot 353 from BMD Bloodstock’s draft, is a half-sister to Globe (NZ) (Charm Spirit), who has had five starts for four super-impressive victories. His wins have come by a combined margin of almost 14 lengths, and the rivals he has beaten include the subsequent Group One winner Affaire A Suivre (NZ) (Astern). The world could be Globe’s oyster this spring, and he has been nominated for the Group One Cox Plate (2040m) and Caulfield Cup (2400m).
  • Lot 164 from Lilywhites Lodge by Lucky Sweynesse’s sire Sweynesse, is a half-brother to the exciting three-year-old Snow Patrol (NZ) (Contributer). Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, the gelding has made a good impression with a win and a placing from two starts to date and is being pointed towards age-group features later in the spring.
  • Offered by Highview, Lot 55 is a half-brother to Sweet Encounter (NZ) (Toronado), who made his mark in Hong Kong with four wins and three placings as a four-year-old last season. He also finished only two lengths from the winner when seventh in the Hong Kong Derby (2000m).
  • Kiltannon Stud offer Lot 75, a half-sister to Japanese Emperor (NZ) (Satono Aladdin), who was a close third in the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) in the fourth start of his career in March. He also finished third in the Group Two Alister Clark Stakes (2040m). This is the family of top-class racehorses Amarelinha (NZ) (Savabeel), Sweet Ride (Deep Field), North Pacific (Brazen Beau) and Metal Bender (NZ) (Danasinga).
  • Lot 77 from the Kilgravin Lodge draft is a Per Incanto half-brother to Desert Lightning (NZ) (Pride Of Dubai), who won last season’s Group Two Avondale Guineas (2100m), ran second in the Group One New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) and third in the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m).
  • The filly by Ten Sovereigns catalogued as Lot 247 is a half-sister to Sakura Girl (NZ) (Iffraaj), who performed to a high level on both sides of the Tasman as a three-year-old last season. She won the Group Three Sunline Vase (2100m) and placed in the Group Two David & Karyn Ellis Fillies’ Classic (2000m), the Group Two Travis Stakes (2000m) and the Group Two Doomben Roses (2000m). She is being offered by Riverrock Farm.
  • Riversley Park offer Lot 264, a half-brother to two stakes winners – Play That Song (NZ) (Showcasing) and Wild Night (NZ) (Vanbrugh). Wild Night put together an impressive sequence of five wins in a row last season, including the Group Two Sarten Memorial (1400m) and the Listed Uncle Remus Stakes (1400m). His winning streak ended with a terrific second behind top filly Prowess (NZ) (Proisir) in the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m).
  • Lot 273 offered on account of Westbury Stud, is a half-brother to the highly rated Solidify (NZ) (Redwood), who has looked very good winning three of his six starts so far including the Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Stakes (1200m). He is among the leading contenders for the Group One New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton in November.

The 2023 edition of the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre on 22 and 23 November, with Breeze Ups to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 16 and 17 October.

Online bidding is available for all prospective purchasers via bidonline.nzb.co.nz, plus an extensive online catalogue on www.nzb.co.nz that will host pedigrees, parade videos and photos, breeze up clips and data analysis, updates and important information to assist your buying decisions.
