Barbaric Brings I Am Invincible Blood to Queensland

In 2022, Lyndhurst Stud added the brilliant Group winning juvenile Barbaric to their roster and 12 months on his first foals are making a great impression.

One of only two stallions by reigning champion sire I Am Invincible standing in Queensland, Barbaric covered 86 mares in his first year at stud and is primed for another busy breeding season.

“He has let down into a really nice horse, so much so that you’d swear he went to stud a number of seasons ago,” said Lyndhurst Stud’s Jeff Kruger.

Barbaric was purchased for $900,000 as a yearling from the Segenhoe draft in 2019 by China Horse Club/Newgate Bstock/WinStar Farm and stands at Lyndhurst Stud in association with Newgate.

“I strongly believe Barbaric was the standout yearling at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale of his year,” said Newgate’s Managing Director Henry Field.

“In fact we had never paid more for a yearling since starting our colts partnership. He was a horse with really good talent that we didn’t get to see the best of.

“He will certainly get his opportunity at stud being managed by the Kruger family who have launched so many excellent sires in Queensland during its long history.”

Barbaric retired lightly raced with two wins from five starts highlighted by his Group III victory in the Canberra Black Opal Stakes at two and has an impressive female pedigree that is a work in progress.

Barbaric is the best of five winners from Group II winning $1.1million earner Mimi Lebrock, who won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and was also third in the Group I VRC Emirates Stakes and Myer Classic. He is a half-brother to Group III placed mare Diddles, who sold for $1million at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and is also closely related to stakes-winning mare Shoko (a half-sister to Mimi Lebrock), who also sold for $1million at the 2021 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

Diddles produced a colt by I Am Invincible last spring, while Shoko sadly lost a filly by the champion sire, but she is back in foal to him again and her two year-old colt by I Am Invincible sold at Inglis Easter for $520,000, so it’s not hard to see this pedigree improving sharply in the near future.

The proof of the pudding for any young sire is when those first foals hit the ground and Barbaric babies are pleasing their breeders.

Barbaric stands alongside Better Than Ready and Rothesay this spring at a fee of $8,800 with Lyndhurst offering a great incentive for savvy broodmare owners.

“If you breed to Barbaric twice in the first two years (at full board odds), you get a breeding right for life!” added Kruger.
