New Season Brings New Names into Spotlight

A month into the new season and the second crop sires list is an interesting one with Widden Stud’s Blue Diamond winner Written By setting the pace for winners with Yulong based Grunt putting himself into the picture with a sensational return for his quality colt Veight in the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Written By has quickly racked up six winners from just 15 starters with Tony and Calvin McEvoy sending out his latest winner with progressive filly By the Book scoring at Warracknabeal on Saturday by a couple of lengths as favourite.

Also among his winners have been stakes-placed Gangitano and talented filly Write This Way, who will both pay to follow when they step out next.

A Champion 2YO Colt by Written Tycoon, Written By stands at a fee of $27,500.

Tony and Calvin McEvoy also put the polish on Veight, who won the Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes last season and looked sensational when beating classy stakes-winning Justify (USA) filly Legacies in the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes, read about him here.

Grunt has only had the two winners since the start of the season, but the other is promising debut winner Akicita, who bolted in on debut at Pakenham for the Griffiths De Kock stable. The stable hold the colt in high regard with the Caulfield Guineas mentioned as a spring goal, so watch this space!
