Well-Deserved Stakes Win for Bold Mac in Rowley Mile

Mark Smith - Thursday August 17

The $200,000 Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury was held up for four minutes due to a cow on the track, but it did not faze the Iron horse Bold Mac who earned a richly deserved maiden stakes win.

Part of a six-horse entry for Chris Waller, the New Zealand-bred son of the Fastnet Rock stallion The Bold One scored a fighting half-head victory over Protagonist (FR) (Wooton Bassett) with the local hope Ruby Flyer (Fling Artie) a half-length back in third.

With his third consecutive win, Bold Mac advances his record to eight wins, six seconds, and a third from 26 starts with earnings of $605,394.

The winner of three of his nine starts in New Zealand for Colin Cromarty, Bold Mac was narrowly edged out of the Listed McKell Cup at Rosehill in June.

Stable representative Charlie Duckworth praised the 6yo gelding constitution and the ride of Kerrin McEvoy.

“I think he won the reward for having the most starts on ATC tracks last season, and he has had two this season, both wins," Duckworth said.

“He is a rock-solid horse and a legend to have around the stable. He tries every time.

"He’s found his mojo, although I thought he had just got done.

“I’m delighted for Kerrin and the owners who have been patient with him. They are reaping the rewards and he is full of confidence.”

Bold Mac is a homebred for Bernie Gudsell, who races the gelding with members of his family and original trainer Colin Cromarty.

The lone winner from two to race for the 4-time winning Colombia mare Mrs Mac, Bold Mac is the first winner for The Bold One, a blue-blooded son of Fastnet Rock and Group One winner The Jewel, who stands at Grangewilliam Stud for a fee of $4,000 plus GST.
