Sad Passing of Show a Heart

Media Release - Tuesday August 1

Glenlogan Park is sad to advise that one of Queensland’s truly great racehorses and stallions, Show A Heart, was humanely euthanized late last week at the age of 25.

Show a Heart will be sadly missed, the last commercial Star Kingdom line sire.

After a stellar career both on the track and in the breeding barn, Show A Heart was retired from breeding duties in 2020 and had been living out his retirement at Glenlogan. Unfortunately, in recent times he had lost a good deal of his mobility.

“It’s a very sad time here for everyone,”, Glenlogan Park’s Steve Morley said.

“Show A Heart has been a massive part of our lives for over 20 years, doing so much for the farm and the industry, and setting some amazing milestones during his career.”

Bred and raced by Ross and Judy Cutts, Show A Heart was the only horse this century to have won G1’s at the ages of 2, 3 and 4 until Anamoe joined him earlier this year. He retired after winning a memorable duel with his future barnmate Falvelon in the 2002 Stradbroke Handicap.

At stud he proved an instant success, claiming Australia’s Champion First Season Sire crown in a year that saw the world-class Galileo as one of his opponents. A multiple winner of many of Queensland’s Champion Sire titles over the following years, Show A Heart was the last commercial son from the breed-shaping Star Kingdom line to stand at stud.

Amongst a host of many other achievements he sired winners of an Oakleigh Plate, Australian Guineas, Golden Rose, Underwood Stakes, Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Magic Millions Guineas.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the impact Show A Heart has made,” Morley added.

“He has left a legacy that will have an influence on Australian racing for many years to come.

“When you combine what his progeny have won as a sire and a broodmare sire, it is well over the $100 million mark. I expect that would be a record for any stallion to have stood in Queensland.

“However his greatest attribute was his incredible kindness. He was always such a wonderful horse to do anything with and he will be very sorely missed.”

In a fitting finale to what was a sad week for everyone connected to Show A Heart, his son Vetta Velocita was successful at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday in the Cutts family colours.
