Noorilim Park Celebrate Producing Glamour Fillies

The Inglis Digital sale this week of Miss Roseiano to Tom Magnier for $1.275 million was a great result for many parties, but none more so than Noorilim Park in Victoria who bred and sold her as a yearling and have well and truly arrived as a respected producer of elite thoroughbreds with new managers Tom and Shelly Murtagh delighted to join their team.

Group III winning filly Miss Roseiano is the second foal and second winner from stakes-placed Pins mare Special Lover (NZ), a grand-daughter of Group I winning blue hen Diamond Lover that was bought in New Zealand as a yearling for $160,000 back in 2014 from Cambridge Stud by Noorlim Park owner Peter Carrick.

Miss Roseiano and her dam Special Lover at Noorlim Park in 2019.

Her first foal was a colt by Not a Single Doubt that sold for $240,000 at Magic Millions in 2019 and her second, Miss Roseiano, sold for $300,000 at Inglis Premier in 2021 and then along came her third foal, a gorgeous filly by I Am Invincible.

Presented by Noorilim Park at Inglis Premier this year, the stunning bay topped the sale selling for $1.1million to TFI and set a new record price for a filly at this sale.

Peter Carrick spoke to Breednet shortly after that history making sale earlier this year.

“Sir Patrick Hogan always told us Special Lover would one day pay for our farm and he’s been proven correct,” said Peter’s son Glen Carrick.

“It’s very satisfying to produce these sorts of top class fillies that have immense residual value. Tom Magnier has now bought two Noorilim Park bred mares for more than a million as he also bought stakes-winner Crystal Bound last year at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $1.05million.”

Crystal Bound was covered last spring by So You Think and Miss Roseiano is booked to visit Justify (USA).

Noorilim Park are looking to grow their broodmare band, but the current star of the show is Special Lover, who is due to foal again this spring to I Am Invincible after missing the previous year to Snitzel.

The farm has never looked better heading into spring with the pastures now back to their very best having recovered from serious flooding last October and new managers Tom and Shelly Murtagh along with assistant manager Brenna Murphy are well prepared for the busy season ahead.

“I started here a few weeks ago and Shelly a little bit before that and it’s amazing how green the paddocks have come in just that short space of time,” said Tom Murtagh, who joins Noorilim after a successful stint with Darren and Elizabeth Dance trading as Esker Lodge.

“Esker Lodge is a name that came with us from New Zealand and we’ve had good success and built many contacts through that involvement.

“Noorilim is a new challenge for us, but an exciting one as Peter and Glen have done a brilliant job looking after this farm and building a quality broodmare band. Special Lover is an exceptional mare and to do what she has done with her first three foals has everyone excited for the future.”

Noorilim Park will be selling at major yearling sales in 2024 and also plan to offer a select draft at the Inglis breeze up sale later this year.

“We plan to have drafts for Magic Millions and Inglis Premier and we are also looking at offering about half a dozen two year-olds at the Inglis breeze up sale as that’s a market we know well from our Esker Lodge experience,” Murtagh added.

Special Lover will foal again this spring to I Am Invincible!
