Sires by Bloodline – Encosta de Lago

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 26

A two time champion Australian sire and runner-up on four more occasions, Encosta de Lago took a little while to hit his straps as a sire of sires, but then along came Northern Meteor.

Encosta de Lago has left a burgeoning sire dynasty.

Bred by Gooree Stud, Northern Meteor was an explosive sprinter that won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes and retired to Widden Stud lightly raced with three wins from nine starts and importantly he traced in tail female line to Rough Shod, whose descendants also include champion sires Sadler’s Wells and Nureyev.

Northern Meteor stood for just four seasons at Widden.

Northern Meteor stood for just four seasons before his premature death in 2013, but that was enough for him to produce two outstanding sire sons in Zoustar and Deep Field, who has sadly been retired this year due to infertility.

Zoustar is the headline act at Widden Stud this spring at a fee of $220,000, click for more info.

Between those two stallions there are now no fewer than seven of their sons at stud including Zousain and Cosmic Force, who will have their first runners next season and Portland Sky, whose first foals will be born this spring.

Rubick has two outstanding young sons at stud in Jacquinot and Yes Yes Yes.

The future of the Encosta sireline has also been given a real opportunity to go forward through his speedy son Rubick, who comes from the female family of Redoute’s Choice.

Jacquinot has retired to Widden Stud, click for more info.

Rubick has two outstanding young sons at stud in two time Group I winner Jacquinot, new to stud this spring, and Everest winner Yes Yes Yes, who will have his first runners next season.
