An up and coming staying prospect trained by Mark and Levi Kavanagh, progressive Churchill (IRE) gelding First Immortal took another step forward at Flemington on Saturday with a stylish victory.
He’s making rapid progress through his grades and score a dominant win over 2000m in the open three year-old handicap, his fourth win from just 10 starts with earnings topping $210,000.
Co-trainer Levi Kavanagh said apprentice rider Luke Campbell gave First immortal a sweet ride and timed the run to perfection.
“We’re excited about the way he’s going,” Levi said of First Immortal. “We’re looking forward to taking him out to 2500m for his next start.
“We opted to claim and he did a great job. We’re rapt with his progress.”
A $160,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Kavanagh Racing from the Widden Stud draft, First Immortal is the best of two winners from Storm Siren, a half-sister by Excites to Group I winner Hot King Prawn and Group III winner Siren’s Fury.
Churchill will have the favourite in the Group I Prix de Diane (French Oaks) at Longchamp today with his glamour filly Blue Rose Cen shooting for her third G1 win.
Churchill returns to Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000.
