Entries Open for Karaka 2024

Media Release - Friday June 9

Entries are now open for New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka 2024 National Yearling Sales Series, with the Sale to take place in its traditional timeslot at the Karaka Sales Centre from Sunday 28 January.

NZB’s renowned Karaka Sale has produced a prolific number of modern day and all-time champion racehorses, highlighted by a record season on the track. This, joined with leading technology, world-famous Kiwi hospitality and the popular DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka hotel will again combine for an unforgettable Karaka experience.

All key sale indicators were up during the Karaka 2023 sale, highlighting the demand for quality New Zealand stock and the thirst of buyers to get back to Karaka after a COVID-19 enforced travel hiatus.

NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook is excited about the upcoming sales season and building the catalogue for the 2024 edition of the National Yearling Sales Series.

“What an incredible season our graduates and the New Zealand-bred have had on the racetrack this season, winning over 30% of the Australian Group Ones from an 8% racing population,” he said.

“Add to the fact that Lucky Sweynesse is now second-equal on the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings and we have plenty to be optimistic about.

“These results give buyers even more appetite to return to Karaka, alongside what is an incredible depth to our stallion ranks at the moment,” commented Seabrook.

The recent announcement regarding the strategic partnering arrangement between TAB and Entain is a timely boost for the domestic industry, with various announcements to be made on the eve of the upcoming National Weanling & Broodmare Sale to be held at Karaka on 16 June.

“It is pleasing the amount of positive news coming out of the industry, something we expect to generate more confidence from our breeders and domestic buyers,” added Seabrook.

“We truly believe Karaka 2024 is going to attract the biggest international buying bench seen at Karaka in a long time.

“The inspection and selection process is always a great time of year and our team looks forward to getting around all of the farms and seeing the next generation of racetrack stars before they head to Karaka,” added Seabrook.
