Supido a Strike Rate Winner

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 9

Last spring broodmare owners thought they might be on to something with promising young sire Supido, who covered his biggest ever book of 170 mares in his fifth season at Widden and as we head into another breeding season their faith looks to have been well justified.

Supido made headlines with his brilliant Group I placed stakes-winning colt Buenos Noches in the spring and the followed up in the autumn with another quality colt in What You Need, who went three for three when winning the $500,000 Listed VRC Sunlight Classic.

To get two elite prospects from his first crop conceived at a fee of $11,000 will always get you noticed, but it’s the steady stream of week-to-week winners to back that up which has Supido well on the radar as a young sire on the up and he’s already had four winners since the start of June!

His 24 winners have collected $1.9million in earnings putting him in the Top 10 Second Season Sires for winners (seventh) and earnings (eighth), but on the score of strike rate for the Top 10 sires his 44.4% winner to runners is the best of all and his two stakes-winners come from just 54 runners, which compares favourably to Hellbent with two stakes-winners from 109 runners.

A fast sprinter with a serious stallions pedigree, Supido has covered over 570 mares in his first five seasons so has ample numbers to maintain momentum with the promise of last year’s record book of 170 mares sure to buoy his initial success into the future.

Supido has had a fee increase this spring up to $19,800 and looks a smart play for the savvy investor, so if you liked him last spring there is very good reason to stay on board for the ride!
