Sires by Bloodline – Lonhro

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 6

Many broodmare owners have already planned and booked their matings for the season ahead, but there’s always room for change and once you decide on a sireline there can be a myriad of options to consider, so this series looks at stallions standing in Australia this spring grouped by sireline - who tickles your fancy?

Much loved Lonhro is set to leave a lasting legacy.

Lonhro is one of the most loved Australian racehorses and sires we have ever seen and news of his retirement earlier this year has passed the baton well and truly to his sons and grand-sons.

Coolmore’s Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO Pierro has been the front runner for Lonhro in terms of sire sons and he now has three sons of his own at stud with his brilliant Group I winning sprinting son Pierata, sure to be popular in his new location at Yulong in Victoria.

Eureka Stud’s Encryption has made a promising start with his first crop of two year-olds that include quality Group II winning colt Cifrado, who will bid for G1 success in the $1million BRC JJ Atkins on Saturday.

Sweynesse, click for more info.

In New Zealand, Novara Park’s Sweynesse has made his mark as sire of the best sprinter in Hong Kong in Lucky Sweynesse and a few years ago it was Twin Hills Stud’s Denman that also had the top sprinter in Hong Kong in Hot King Prawn.
