One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 1

The Newgate China Horse Club partnership were back in the winner’s circle again at Wyong on Thursday when their expensive $850,000 Written Tycoon colt saluted at his third start.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Mafia was placed at his first two starts back in January and February and was resuming from a spell.

He was a short priced favourite for the 1000m maiden and led for home before fighting on to win by more than a length.

Mafia was a pinhook winner before he became a racetrack winner.

He made $510,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale when bought by Rosemont Stud from the Woodside Park draft and then $850,000 when re-offered at Inglis Easter by Rosemont and snapped up by China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock / Trilogy Racing

Mafia was the second highest priced yearling by Written Tycoon sold in 2022.

Mafia is the first winner for stakes-winning Not a Single Doubt mare Hell or Highwater, who went through the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last week and was bought by Aristia Park Bloodstock/Ashleigh Dowley for $280,000.

Her yearling filly by Written Tycoon sold at Inglis Easter for $275,000 to Andrew Williams Bloodstock.
