$800,000 for Mare in Foal to Golden Slipper Winner Stay Inside

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 25

Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winning sire Stay Inside covered 189 mares last spring and one of them was beautiful More Than Ready (USA) mare Murchison, who was bought at the Gold Coast on Thursday by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $800,000.

Presented in the Newgate Consignment, Murchison had just two starts for the Maher Eustace stable for a win and a second and was offered in foal to Stay Inside in her first season at stud.

A half-sister to Group I winner Steps in Time from Group II winner Rare Insight, Murchison comes from a prolific Black Type family packed with Group I horses including Vision and Power, Glamour Puss and more recently this year’s Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner Espiona

“It’s a family that everyone knows. We were just doing the research document on it and there’s fillies everywhere both here and in New Zealand in foal to all the stallions you want to see on a page,” Sheamus Mills revealed.

“Obviously there’s plenty of black type already on the page and hopefully there’s room for a little bit more because there’s plenty going and I guess that’s the sort of families that you want to get involved in.”

Stay Inside’s sire Extreme Choice has already worked with this family to produce Espiona, who has won over $800,000 in the care of Chris Waller and remains in training for next year.

“I think Stay Inside is a really good mating for her. I think it really suited her physically. He’s a Golden Slipper winner. They’re generally popular, aren’t they,” Mills said.

“A son of Extreme Choice, I love how fast his pedigree is and another fast mating. It is just all the things that gets you to a Magic Millions, gets you to an Easter Sale. Then you’re in the hunt to get that sort of money back.

“When you’re spending a bit I think it gives you a really good opportunity. A good mare with good cover and just a family that keeps selling.”

Stay Inside

Stay Inside stands at a fee of $77,000 this spring.
