Fusaichi Pegasus Has Passed Away

A regular on the Coolmore shuttle to Australia for seven years from 2001 to 2007, Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus has been euthanised at Coolmore’s US headquarters Ashford Stud due to old age.

Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus has died aged 26.

Aged 26, Fu Peg as he was known was retired from stud duties in 2020 and had been living out his retirement at Ashford.

Ashford Stud general manager Dermot Ryan said: "Fu Peg was a fantastic racehorse and a colourful character. I would like to thank Richard Barry and all of his team, past and present, for providing the highest level of care for him throughout his time at Ashford."

Fusaichi Pegasus sired 76 stakes-winners headed by the Australian bred triple Group I winner Haradasun and as a broodmare sire he was even better with his daughters producing 92 stakes-winners and notably Australian Champion 2YO and Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, now one of our leading young sires.

Leading sire Capitalist is from a daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus.
