Godolphin Bred 3YOs Win Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trial

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 14

The Listed Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trials were run and won overnight in the UK with Godolphin homebreds that are both by sons of Galileo, one of them highlighting an explosive nick.

The Lingfield Derby Trial (1m4f) was won by exciting Frankel colt Military Order, whose full brother Adayar won the Group I Epsom Derby for Godolphin in 2021.

Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, Military Order was an easy length and a quarter winner and has now won three of four starts with this victory his first stakes win.

“He had to overcome a race around a track that at this stage of his career, doesn't really play to his strengths. As soon as I was in position he was there for me, he's a very balanced horse. He's come through this test great and did everything right. It's another tick in the box for him,” said William Buick.

Military Order impressed the bookmakers, who now have him at 4-1 for the Epsom Derby.

He is the second winner for Group III winning Dubawi mare Anna Salai, who traces back to a family that has had good success in Australia for Godolphin to produce Group I winners Helmet and Epaulette.

Military Order is the 115th stakes-winner for Frankel and is his seventh from a daughter of Dubawi. The nick between the two champion sires has had 26 winners from 31 runners, so 84% winners to runner and 22.5% SW to runner.

Interestingly three of the SW’s are G1 winners Adayar, Homeless Truths and Dream Castle, so it’s producing a G1 winner for every 10 runners!!

The Lingfield Oaks Trial (1m4f) was won by Teofilo filly Eternal Hope, who scored for the same connections by a length and three-quarters and has now won two of three starts with this her first stakes win.

Eternal Hope is not entered for the Group I Epsom Oaks, so connections will have until May 27 to decide whether to head to Epsom although she also has an entry in the Group II Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Eternal Hope is the first winner for Voice of Truth, a winning half-sister by Dubawi to triple Group I winner Rio de Plata.

She is the 111th stakes-winner for Teofilo and is his seventh from a daughter of Dubawi. The nick between these two sires has produced 21 winners from 30 runners, so 70% winner to runner and 23% SW to runner, although the best of the SW’s so far are G3 winners Without a Fight and Tantheem.
