Plenty of action at Hawkesbury racecourse on Monday morning with 14 barrier trials, which included a solid hit out from 3-time Group 1 winning mare, Duais, who can’t be far off a return to racing.
Five of the trials, however, were dedicated to 2YOs with Martindale Dancer and Vendemmia two of the stand outs.
It was the second trial win in a row for Martindale Dancer and she can’t be far off a start for Lee and Cherie Curtis.
A daughter of multiple Group winner Pariah – who recently relocated to Oaklands Stud in Queensland from Arrowfield Stud – Martindale Dancer is from the O’Reilly mare, Diva O’Reilly, in turn a half sister to Kiwi stakes winner Summer’s Day.
A son of Redoute’s Choice, Pariah has had four unraced trial winners in the past fortnight and will stand this season at $8,800.
Martindale Dancer was passed in for $50,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Vendemmia, meanwhile, was sharpish out of the gates and only gave rivals a look at his rear end, winning by over five lengths.
Vendemmia is by leading New Zealand sire, Per Incanto (sire of Newmarket winner Roch ‘n’ Horse, Little Brose etc.) and is a half brother to stakes placed Madam Hass.
Originally sold by Sledmere Stud to RS Bloodstock, Paul Moroney and Catheryne Bruggeman for $220,000 at the 2022 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the flashy youngster was later passed in for $300,000 at the Inglis Ready 2 Race and is now in the hands of Hawkesbury trainer, Matthew Vella.
