Contributer Headlines Mapperley Stud Roster

Media Release - Monday April 24

Mapperley Stud has announced their service fees for the 2023 season with their Dual Group One-winning son of High Chaparral, Contributer, headlining their roster at a fee of $18,000+GST.

A proven Group One producing sire, Contributer has had a marvellous season on the racetrack emphasised by his exceptional stakes winners and stakes performers to runners strike rate.

Contributer

From only 38 runners to the track this season, he has produced five individual stakes winners and nine stakes horses.

A stallion building a reputation for upgrading mares, one out of five runners are gaining valuable black-type this season.

“Contributer continues to impress with another strong year of results on the racetrack. If you look at his statistics, on his current trajectory, he’s performing better or at least on par with the elite sons of High Chaparral across the key performance measures. They are pretty significant sires he’s being compared to, the likes of So You Think, Toronado, and Dundeel” Mapperley Stud principal Simms Davison said.

“If you take this into account, his fee of $18,000 is enormous value for breeders. We think he will be the value stallion in New Zealand this year considering the excellent job he’s done so far.

“We are thrilled with the feedback we are getting from the market, which is that these horses are tough and trainable and trainers love having in their stable. We can see this flow onto his results in the sales ring, he averaged a very healthy $136,000 in Book 1 this year.

Armory, a champion son of the legendary Galileo returns at an unchanged fee of $10,000 after being the most coveted first season sire in 2022, covering a quality book of 127 mares.

“Breeders really got behind him in his first year which is extremely rewarding. He’s an excellent physical type and breeders gravitate to that as we all want to breed strong, good-looking athletes for the racetrack” Davison said.

“We are now eagerly anticipating his first foals in August, it’s always an exciting time for the stud and we have full confidence in him producing some ripping types.”

Mapperley Stud has made another splash into the stallion market, partnering with Windsor Park Stud and Lion Rock Bloodstock to secure Profondo, an exciting Group One-winning son of Deep Impact.

Profondo will take residence at Windsor Park Stud in Cambridge and stand for an introductory fee of $17,500+gst in 2023.

A A$1.9 million dollar sales-topping yearling, Profondo made a winning debut over 1400m at Randwick in Sydney as an early three-year-old prior to winning the Gr.1 Spring Championship Stakes (2000m) at just his third start.

“We have had an overwhelming response from breeders since announcing he was coming to New Zealand, due to the extreme demand for his services he now has a closed book” Davison said.

“It’s a massive vote of confidence to see breeders flock to him so early on in the piece, it’s a sign that you’ve chosen the right stallion to present to the market.”
