Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 21

There were some interesting Brisbane Carnival type horses going around at the Warwick Farm trials on Friday including Group I winners such as Private Eye, Espiona, Smokin’ Romans and a horse with G1 potential in Think About It and in the juvenile heats a filly by Zoustar caught our eye.

The Chris Waller trained filly Makena looked strong and bright, jumping smartly for Joao Moreira to take up the lead and cruising along in front to win by half a length held together.

looked a much more mature filly this time around having had one unplaced trial last spring behind Platinum Jubilee and then one unplaced run at Flemington behind Veecee in January.

Expect to see better from her when she goes back to the races again.

Makena was a $440,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Makena was a $440,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Chris Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock and is from stakes-winning Street Cry (IRE) mare Quayside, whose next two dams are Group II winner Quays and Group I winner Pontal Lass.

Pedigree suggests improvement at three is highly likely for Makena.

Other juvenile heat winners were: Zazel (Rubick), Casebolt (Flying Artie), Debello (Deep Field), Joey D’Or (Pariah) and Wild Beau (Brazen Beau).
