Edinburgh Park Dispersal to Boost Magic Millions National

Media Release - Thursday April 20

Next month’s Magic Millions National Sale has been boosted with the announcement of the Edinburgh Park Unreserved Dispersal

The dispersal of 63 lots will be sold across the National Sale and will feature 23 weanlings and 40 racefillies or broodmares.

$3.1million earner Eleven Eleven is one of the star performers bred and sold by Edinburgh Park in recent years..

The draft will include a dozen stakes performed mares – everything from young stakes winners, blue blooded mares and proven stakes producers.

“I’ve decided to hit the reset button and will step back for a bit,” Edinburgh’s Ian Smith reported.

“Having an unreserved dispersal has been on my mind for a while and I decided now was the right time.”

“You sacrifice a lot in this industry and I will take some time to reassess how I tackle the future.”

Smith has spent many years building up strong and successful bloodlines at his farm and has become one of the region’s most successful breeders.

“I want to be able to present every horse to market and to offer them unreserved – a transparent process – with great opportunities for buyers.”

“There’s a great line up of weanlings and also plenty of young stakes winning mares. A number of them are from families I’ve helped to develop.”

“I’ve spent years and years building the broodmare band up and I’ve been able to breed some tremendous horses.”

A selection of the Edinburgh Park draft was already entered for the National Sale, but the dispersal has seen the draft size increase markedly.

Among the line up of weanlings are youngsters by such sires Deep Field, Pierro, So You Think, Wootton Bassett, Written Tycoon and Zoustar.

The broodmare offering includes top prospects in foal to the likes of Exceed and Excel, Farnan, Fastnet Rock, Harry Angel, Lonhro, Pinatubo, So You Think, Stay Inside, Street Boss and Zoustar.

“The Edinburgh Park Unreserved Dispersal will present an incredible opportunity for buyers,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“Smithy is one of the country’s most astute and successful breeders and the weanlings, fillies and mares to go under the hammer are the fruits of his years of hard work and investment.”

“We have a world class catalogue for the 2023 National Sale and we can’t wait to welcome vendors and buyers to the Gold Coast next month,” Bowditch added.

Selling will commence with Day One of the National Weanling Sale on May 18. The Edinburgh Park weanlings will be offered at the conclusion of Day One.

The National Broodmare Sale kicks away on May 23 with the Edinburgh Park fillies and mares up for unreserved sale to round out that day’s action.

The online catalogue and Equineline Catalog APP will be updated with the Edinburgh Park Dispersal lots over the over the coming days.
