Shalaa to Woodside Park

Media Release - Thursday April 20

Shalaa will be heading south to Victoria to join the roster at Woodside Park following six seasons at Arrowfield Stud.

The Champion Great Britain and French 2YO is a son of Invincible Spirit just like I Am Invincible (Australian Champion Sire), Kingman (55 stakes-winners), Lawman (36 stakes-winners), etc.
Shalaa is a great new addition for Victoria.
At stud Shalaa is already the sire of 14 stakes-winners, 5 of those in black type 2YO races including Shaquero (GCTC Magic Millions Classic L), Seven Veils (ATC Reisling Stakes Gr.2), Semillion (ATC Kindergarten S. Gr.3), etc.

Mark Dodemaide – Nominations Manager commented, “He has really been on a roll in the last 12 months. Since March 2022 he has had 10 new stakes-winners including recent three-year-old stakes success from Recommendation (MRC Zeditave Stakes Gr.3), Jennilala (SAJC Auraria Stakes), etc.

"Not only has this stallion seen stakes success in Australia but has already produced a Group 1-winning three-year-old No Speak Alexander in Ireland. There are plenty of bullets to be fired in the Northern Hemisphere so more Gr.1 success is on the cards."

Anthony Bueti - General Manager of Woodside Park was excited about the new addition to the roster, “Eddie (Hirsch) has shown his commitment to supporting the Victorian thoroughbred industry for a long time and has shown this through his increased investment, since he acquired Woodside in 2021 and Hirsch Park training facility in 2019. The decision to pursue Shalaa, is another display of Eddie’s commitment that he will invest in quality stallions and bloodstock.”

Eddie Hirsch – Owner of Woodside Park Stud commented, “I have been eyeing off Shalaa since the start of the yearling sales season. Being a Champion two-year-old in both England and France, I believe he is ideal fit for the lucrative VOBIS scheme. Especially the new VOBIS Sires Boost program, which has $30,000 in bonus vouchers on races.”

Arrowfield’s Bloodstock Manager Jon Freyer said, “Shalaa has 108 rising two-year-olds which have sold up to $220,000 this year, and he covered almost 200 mares in 2021 and 2022. So, he goes to Woodside with plenty of work-in-progress to keep his momentum going.”

Shalaa will stand the 2023 breeding season for $22,000 including GST and payable on live foal. The remaining stallion roster and fees for Woodside will be announced next week.
