Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 18

There was a big set of trials at Randwick on Tuesday with eight heats for juveniles and some interesting unraced winners, while Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic winner Sovereign Fund was also back in action winning at his first appearance since being unplaced in the MM 2YO Classic.

With so many of the Newgate / China Horse Club owned colts heading to the paddock after autumn campaigns, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Sovereign Fund looks primed to fill the gap with plenty of Black Type races sure to suit in Queensland in coming weeks and months.

Trapeze Artist featured in the next heat with the unraced Michael Freedman trained colt Ducasse improving at his second trial to finish off well and win.

Stakes-winner Godfather given a very quiet trial and not beaten far and he’s another one that has not raced since finishing unplaced in the MM 2YO Classic.

A $280,000 Inglis Easter purchase he runs for an ownership group that includes Segenhoe and is a half-brother to five winners and four of them are either stakes-winners or stakes-placed so Ducasse looks a good chance to add further to the record of his dam Custard, a stakes-winning daughter of Lonhro.

Strong first trial for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written Tycoon filly Tycoon Deshauna, who mustered quickly and led all the way to win with ears pricked.

A pinhook winner, Tycoon Deshauna was a $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase and her ownership group includes Frank Cook’s Mystery Downs, who has had past success with another filly from this family.  Tycoon Deshauna is from Supersay, a winning half-sister to Cook’s VRC Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit.

A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase, Tycoon Deshauna is built for speed!

Some very nice colts in this heat with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott training the first three home and all performed well with Stand Aside taking the win ahead of flashy Justify colt Jagjit, who jumped from the outside gate and was wide all the way.

Also keep a close eye on fourth placed Kandinsky Abstract, the $3million full brother to Sunlight hit the line hard in his first public outing albeit given a very easy time.

Other heat winners were: Thunderlips (Zoustar), Hyde Park (Spirit of Boom), Power Ballard (Exceed and Excel) and Perigean (Extreme Choice).
