Twin Hills Stud have six yearlings for Inglis Easter and are in the happy position of being able to take the guesswork out of the equation for buyers with every single yearling they offer this year being by a proven elite Group I sire.
Pierro gets the ball rolling for Twin Hills with Lot 35, a filly bred to be an Oaks queen being the second foal from Baileya (IRE), an unraced half-sister to Melbourne Cup and Australian Cup winning sire Fiorente and to the dam of $1.4million earning Group I performer Tom Melbourne.
This lovely filly carries the Danehill line through her female pedigree and it’s worth noting all six of Pierro’s Group I winners are from mares carrying Danehill blood.
“She has a two-year-old half-brother by Lope De Vega, Nescaffier, who is in training with Matthew Dunn and has shown a great deal of promise,” said Olly Tait.
“This filly is a typical Pierro, with plenty of size, length and a lovely walk. She is bred in the purple. She will certainly get over some ground and her pedigree suggests that no dream over distance will be unrealistic.”
Lot 75 is a So You Think colt from Classic Vogue, a winning half-sister by Mastercraftsman (IRE) to Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Wild Iris, the dam of multiple Group II winning $1.2million earner Zanbagh.
Mastercraftsman mares have already produced Australian Group I winners Loving Gaby and Manzoice and this colt’s half-sister Trendy Lass won on debut as a two-year-old, so it’s a family that has produced both outstanding sprinters and middle-distance horses.
“This is a beautiful colt with a lovely shape, nice short cannons and plenty of quality for a So You Think,” Tait said.
“He’s been a good horse since the day he was born. He comes from a great, old family that consistently produces horses of the highest quality.”
Lot 113 is a Toronado (IRE) colt from Elle Gagne and is the second foal of a winning daughter of Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi from the family of Group I HK International Sprint winner Sky Field and HK International Mile winner The Duke.
“The most striking thing about this colt is the way that he moves. He has a gorgeous action. He has come together really nicely for the sale and his sire Toronado is top class,” said Tait.
Lot 155 is a rare grey colt by champion sire and sire of sires Fastnet Rock. He is the first foal of Grey Shadow (IRE), an unraced full sister to Group I winning sire Outstrip, best known here as the sire of Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip.
“This colt has so much class – he’s bred to be a stallion. He is more like his broodmare sire Exceed And Excel, than his sire Fastnet Rock. A late foal, he has developed beautifully during the sales prep,” Tait said.
Lot 228 is a dashing colt by Deep Field from Group III placed I Am Invincible mare Mine Two, a half-sister to Group I winner and $1.3million earner Spright. Her two year-old filly Miss Ghent (Dundeel) won on debut at Canberra and ran a good sixth last Saturday beaten just over two lengths in the Group III ATC TL Baillieu.
“Our colt out of Mine Two has always been glorious. He has a great temperament, plenty of size, and above all, class. The two-year-old out of the mare looks very promising and Deep Field is a terrific stallion and had the Hong Kong Derby winner last week in Voyage Bubble,” Tait said.
Lot 372 is an eye-catching Snitzel half-brother to brilliant sprinter The Blue Eye, Champion Sprinter in Qatar for four seasons and Australian Group II placed filly See You Soon being from French Group III winner Soneva (USA).
He is bred by Jean and Karine Dubois at Woodpark Stud, who have produced a number of top class horses in recent years including Qafila and Aylmerton and this family has worked in Australasia previously to produce outstanding Group I winning Redoute’s Choice filly King’s Rose, now at stud in Japan.
“The colt out of Soneva is regally bred and has the looks to match. He has loads of scope but at the same time is very powerful and promises to show his abilities as a two-year-old. He is a striking horse to look at, by a truly great stallion,” Tait said.
