First Runner a Winner for Magna Grecia

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 24

With his first Australian bred progeny selling at yearling sales this year, Invincible Spirit’s dual Group I winning son Magna Grecia (IRE) has made the perfect start to his stud career in Europe with his first runner returning a winner at Saint-Cloud on Thursday.

The juvenile maiden over 900m was won by the Amy Murphy trained colt Myconian, who was sent out favourite and scored by three-quarters of a length. He was headed and came again to fight on and win drawing away.

Myconian was bought for €27,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and is the first winner for slick juvenile stakes-winner Sirici, a daughter of Choisir.

He becomes the first winner for Magna Grecia, a Group I winner at two and three, whose half-brother is European Horse of the Year St Mark’s Basilica.

Magna Grecia has had yearlings sell for up to $200,000 in Australia this year and was at Coolmore Australia last spring as was his five time G1 winning half-brother St Mark’s Basilica, who was well received in his first season covering 159 mares.
