Spirit of Boom Colts Dominate MM Gold Coast March Day One

Media Release - Monday March 20

Three colts by Spirit of Boom led the way on Day One of the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale this afternoon.

The colt from Maribyrnong Trial winner Noesis topped the day's proceedings and was one of three by the former sale graduate to sell for six figures or more.

$140,000 Spirit of Boom colt from Noesis.

The father-daughter training team of Tony and Maddysen Sears will be training the Noesis colt (Lot 103) after going to $140,000 to secure him from the draft of Eureka Stud.

"We bought him in conjunction with Catheryne Bruggeman and Paul Moroney and they said he was one of the nicest Spirit of Booms they'd ever seen," a delighted Maddysen Sears said.

"He's extremely athletic, has good scope and just oozed class. We are excited to have been able to buy him."

"He's correct and has a great attitude - nothing phased him and he's handled the sale and inspections so well."

"The cross is fantastic - Spirit of Boom over Exceed and Excel mares," Sears added. "And his dam was a fast two-year-old."

Early in the day Stuart Kendrick teamed up with Clarke Bloodstock to secure Lot 9 - the Spirit of Boom-Heaven colt for $130,000.

The colt was offered through the draft of Lucas Bloodstock, who acted as agent for breeder River Junction.

The Heaven colt is a half brother to three winners, from three to race, for an unraced Medaglia d'Oro half sister to Altar. His dam has already produced the stakes performer Destination.

Spirit of Boom's trainer Tony Gollan, in conjunction with leading bloodstock agent John Foote, went to $110,000 to secure the third top seller by the sire - Clear Mountain Fairview's colt from Jyler.

That colt is a half brother to three winners including Group Three Lord Mayor's Cup and Listed Weetwood Handicap winner Col 'n' Lil.

Sharing third spot on the podium today was one of the last lots of the day, the Yes Yes Yes colt from Snitzel's Joy, who also sold for $110,000.

That youngster, offered as part of the Telemon Thoroughbreds draft, was purchased by Neil Jenkinson in partnership with Sydney based trainer Matthew Dunn.

The other six figure seller on Day One was the first foal of former explosive Central Queensland filly Paradis Imperial, a filly by Power, who sold for $100,000.

A member of the Oaklands Stud draft, the good looking grey filly was snapped up by Champagne Bloodstock after a flurry of bids from around the auditorium.

During the day almost $4.5 million was traded on 127 lots sold at an average price of $35,370 and clearance rate of 73.4 per cent.

"Overall today was a solid day's trade," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch noted. "We have a genuine expectation that the clearance rate will continue to improve between now and the end of tomorrow."

"Vendors as a whole are willing to meet the market and when any horse of quality came into the ring today it sold accordingly."

"The prizemoney and bonuses that these horses can race for surely gives confidence to the local market to be able to be strongly involved in the sale and we look forward to further participation tomorrow."

"Reflecting on today's results - there's certainly plenty of value to be found in the market," Bowditch added.
