Big Payday for Kobayashi

Mark Smith - Sunday March 19

Naturally enough, there were significant movements on the sires' tables as the cash flowed with gay abandon at Rosehill, Moonee Valley and Doomben on Saturday.

Snitzel moved to the top of the 2yo ladder following the dominant performance of Shinzo in the $5,000,000 Golden Slipper and moved to within $1.1 million of I Am Invincible in the race for champion Sire.

Another to make a move was Aquis Stud's Kobayashi, who quinelled the $500,000 Sky Racing QTIS Jewel (1200m) with the Les Ross-trained pair Mishani Royale and Mishani Gangster.

The fourth leg of a 5-timer for Ben Thompson, Mishani Royale defeated her stablemate by a half-length to advance her record to four wins and a second from five starts with earnings of $513,650.

It elevated Kobayashi to 12th on the 2yo table and eighth leading second crop sire.

The son of I Am Invincible joins his Aquis barn-mates, The Mission and Invader in the top ten.

Owner/breeder Mike Crooks and trainer Les Ross have been a big part of Kobayashi's success and were on track to revel in the big race quinella.

"Words can't describe this for me," Crooks told Racenet.

"I thought we might be able to run one-two; I actually backed the Gangster for a bit more money.

"But this filly is a good little filly."

Mishani Royale is the second foal, and first runner for the talented Your Song mare Girl In A Million, a 5-time winning daughter of the stakes winner and multiple Group placed Calming (Zeditave).

Girl In A Million has a yearling filly by Sidestep and foaled a sister to Mishani Royale on November 13.
