Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 13

Five heats for juveniles at Rosehill on Monday morning with winners including a flashy Snitzel filly that holds an entry for the $1million Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes.

Trained by Team Hawkes, Makarena was having her first trial and jumped fast, but was restrained by Zac Lloyd to take a sit behind the leaders. Shaken up over the final furlong she chased down the leader to win running away.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Hawkes Racing from Arrowfield, she is a half-sister to Group III winner Missile Mantra and Group II placed Maximak from Wecansay Mak, a winning full sister to Group I winner We Can Say It Now.

Makarena was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Arrowfield will offer a Castelvecchio colt from Wecansay Mak at Inglis Easter as Lot 450.

Pierro had the first two fillies home in this hear with Woppitt Bloodstock’s homebred filly Bright Red saluting for the Chris Waller stable.

Bright Red was having her first trial this year after one unplaced effort last December and found the line well for Nash Rawiller to win by half a length.

Bred on the super successful Pierro x Redoute’s Choice cross she is from Group III placed All cerise, a half-sister to Group I winner Mission Critical and Group II winner Brilliant Light.

The Bjorn Baker trained Zoustar colt Thunderlips showed improvement from his first trial last month when finishing third, mustering quicker this time to hold the fence and then held off a challenge from another Zoustar in Gitalong, who was fifth in the Golden Gift before Christmas.

Also interested in the run of Omelette, a late closing fourth after travelling deep. He’s a homebred for Hermitage Thoroughbreds and is by their champion 3YO The Autumn Sun from their two time Oaks winner Egg Tart. Omelette is not surprisingly trained by Chris Waller, who prepared both of his parents!

Thunderlips was a $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Lustre Lodge draft and is the first and only foal from stakes-placed Foxwedge mare Shapita, a daughter of Group II winner Te Akau Rose from the family of Group I ATC Doncaster winner Brutal.

Additional winners were: Bobby Shiraz (Savabeel) and Rimbau (Lope de Vega).
