Your Song Leads First Season Sires by Winners

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 1
Widden Stud's Your Song has capped a remarkably successful 12 months to finish as the leading Australian First Season Sire by winners, wins, metropolitan winners and stakes horses.

"Widden Stud have had a great track record for producing successful first season sires in recent years with Stratum, Northern Meteor, Sebring and Star Witness all finding immediate success before going on to become established as leading Group I sires," said Antony Thompson.

"Your Song has just kept improving right through the season and as we come into spring he has the right type of horses out there to keep his name in lights."

Your SongYour Song's tally of 11 Australian winners of 15 races come from just 30 Australian runners with stakes-winner Split Lip the highlight horse accompanied by stakes-placegetters Memento, Soundcheck and Peristrophe.

Success on metropolitan tracks is always a good guide as to the quality of a young stallions winners with Your Song also siring six metropolitan winners including highly promising colt Brave Song, who won by three lengths at Canterbury last Wednesday for Peter and Paul Snowden.

The progeny of Your Song have shown well above average ability to date, but if they follow in the footsteps of their own sire we can expect far more from them in the season to come.

Your Song won two of three starts at two, but blossomed at three to claim Group I success with a resounding win against older sprinters in the BTC Cup at 1200 metres.

A son of champion sire Fastnet Rock, Your Song looks well placed to join a growing list of his young sire sons enjoying top class commercial success.

Your Song will cover his best ever book of mares as he is fully booked this spring at a fee of $22,000.
