One To Watch - Muswellbrook

Mark Smith - Friday March 10

Woodside Park Stud's Vancouver is on a hot run of late. His 3yo son Bencouver thumped his opponents by upwards of three lengths in a 1400m maiden at Pakenham on Thursday night, then the 3yo filly Vancouver Queen made a one-act affair of a competitive 1000m maiden at Muswellbrook on Friday.

Ridden by Winona Costin for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Vancouver Queen dominated from the front at her career debut. She was untroubled to defeat the Russian Revolution filly Rushin' Bubbles by four and a quarter length with the 4yo Sidestep mare Jody Girl a half length back in third.

"She is so well educated; she began brilliantly, showed lots of gate speed, and I was able to control it and dashed clear," Winona Costin said.

t;The best thing about Gai and Adrian's horses is that even when they do get pressured, they still relax. They worry about themselves, and when I pressed the button away she sprinted. She's a lovely filly."
