Six broodmare packages first up in Cambridge Stud’s annual reduction

Media Release - Thursday March 2

Cambridge Stud’s annual reduction process has started with a quality line up in the latest 74 Lot gavelhouse.com auction.

“Every year we reduce our broodmare numbers to make way for the fillies coming in from our racing team,” said the farm’s Sales and Nominations Manager Scott Calder.

“This year we are offering several mares with foals at foot including two with colts by our headline sire Almanzor.”

“The mare and foal packages are a great opportunity to not only buy a well credentialed mare but also seek a quick return with the foals if people wish.”

“The foals have all been handled by FoalNZ so a lot hard work has already been done.”

Cavalini and her filly by Frosted (USA)

The farm’s first draft features six Lots:

  • Lot 52 - Amalfitana. A mare from a family dear to stud principals Brendan and Jo Lindsay, her second dam is the multiple Group One performed J’Adane (Danehill). Amalfitana is offered with a colt by Group One winning Savabeel son Embellish at foot and is in foal to champion -two-year-old Sword of State (Snitzel).
  • Lot 56 – Cavalini (pictured). Herself a $310,000 yearling, Cavalini is by Exceed and Excel and won as a juvenile in Australia. She is offered with her filly by Darley’s Frosted, who stood for A$38,500 last year, at foot and is in foal to Embellish.
  • Lot 58 - Extra Celestial. The dam of Karaka Million 3yo Classic and dual Group Two winner Scott Base, Extra Celestial is offered with her Almanzor colt who is bred on the same cross as Gr.1 VRC Derby winner Manzoice.
  • Lot 67 – Pass the Post. A six-time winner who was an $80,000 broodmare buy in 2019, Pass the Post’s progeny have sold for up to $100,000 and she is offered with her Almanzor colt at foot. Closely related to Flying Artie and Better Loosen Up.
  • Lot 69 – Racing Nadine. The dam of three to race, all winners, with just two dams on the page, Racing Nadine is by Bernardini and from a family heavy with black type. Multiple Group One winning sires feature on her page, the most notable being Redoute’s Choice. She is also a half to two-time Group One winner He’s No Pie Eater and is offered in foal to Sword of State.
  • Lot 72 – Simmonstar. A daughter of champion racemare Lashed and outstanding broodmare sire Stravinsky, Simmonstar is offered with an Embellish colt at foot and is back in foal to the son of Savabeel.

The auction also features stallion nominations and charity items as part of Kingsclere Stables’ fundraising efforts for Cyclone Gabrielle victims. Bidding will end from 7pm (NZT) on Monday 6 March.
