Golden Slipper Showdown at Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 2

The business end of the Golden Slipper is fast approaching and while there are only small fields engaged for the key lead up races at Randwick this Saturday there is a very good chance we will see this year’s winner.

The Group II ATC Reisling Stakes (1200m) features Slipper favourite Learning to Fly with just five fillies lining up to oppose the powerhouse daughter of Justify (USA).

All of her rivals are maidens with the exception of Cigar Flick, who won on debut before finishing fourth in the Group III ATC Widden (behind Learning to Fly) and then fifth in the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude.

Interesting runner is  unraced Emirates Park homebred Mathkhoora, who won a barrier trial at Rosehill on Monday and is being thrown into the deep end. By I Am Invincible from Golden Slipper winner Mossfun, her full brother sold for $1.65 million at Magic Millions.

ong>The Group II ATC Todman Stakes (1200m) has just five runners and they are all winners! Cylinder, Red Resistance and Empire of Japan are all stakes-winners, while Café Millenium and Miltarize both won metro debut races in style.

This is going to be a great contest and it’s probably worth a look at the tune up barrier trial of Red Resistance, who will likely take the lead and is going to take a power of catching.
