Broodmares and tried horses excel in record February online sale

Media Release - Wednesday February 22

Broodmare prospect Constant Dreaming (Blackfriars) topped a magnificent Inglis Digital February (Late) Sale which saw 12 lots reach six figures including four for $200,000 or more, while one of Australia's best maidens Shalatin was sold for $100,000 and is packing his bags for Singapore.

On a stunning afternoon of online action:

*Yulong flexed its muscle to secure five of the top 12 lots – all mares – as Mr Zhang continues his broodmare band expansion by purchasing Morioka ($230,000), Night Call ($205,000), Taurasi ($200,000), Tinkers ($105,000) and Ballon Bleu ($95,000)

*The Godolphin draft of 16 grossed $892,500, headed by Kanazawa at $160,000 and Camaguey at $150,000

*Popular maiden Shalatin realised $100,000 and will continue his racing days in Asia, having been purchased by Singapore trainer Jason Lim for $100,000

*All three 5% shares in exciting Inglis Sprint-bound 3YO Benedetta sold, two for $28,000 and one for $27,500

*The sale grossed $4,925,300, making it the biggest February online auction since the platform began.

The top lot was Constant Dreaming, who was offered by Perth trainer Adam Durrant and sold to Gall Bloodstock for $275,000.

Stakes-winning racemare Constant Dreaming topped the sale.

“She’s got lots of ability, she got black type on the track and I’m sure she’ll make a nice mum now,’’ Durrant said.

“West Australian families probably aren’t as popular as the Eastern States ones so we thought somewhere between $200,000 and $300,000 would be a great result and she made the upper end of that, so it’s super.

“Inglis Digital is a great platform. With such a big team of horses here, you can put some online Wednesday and they’re sold the following week, it’s very easy, we only sell horses there that we believe are going to win races or have residual value and I think buyers respect that.’’

Brett Gall of Gall Bloodstock said no final decision on the mare’s immediate future had been made.

“We’ll get her here to NSW and she’ll probably race on for a bit, maybe with someone like Ron Quinton, but she’s been bought to go to I Am Invincible which will happen later this year,’’ Brett said.

“We find Inglis Digital really good to use, we certainly can’t complain, we’ve bought some really good ones through the platform and hopefully she is the next one.’’

The second, third and fourth-top lots Morioka, Night Call – in foal to Yes Yes Yes and with a So You Think filly foal at foot - and Taurasi – in foal to Extreme Choice – will all head to Yulong’s Victoria nursery.

“We’ll keep looking at mares that are available, Mr Zhang has a target number that he wants to get to so we’ll keep looking at finding the right mares for the stallions,’’ Yulong’s Sam Fairgray said.

“It’s about trying to get a good mix of bloodlines to support our stallions.

“Morioka will be retired and go to a September cover, probably to Tagaloa, Night Call will probably go to Alabama Express and Taurasi is obviously on a late cover to Extreme Choice so we’re looking forward to getting the foal out of her and we might even breed her here to Northern Hemisphere time.’’

Morioka was offered by Glenesk Thoroughbreds as agent for Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds.

“It’s a wonderful result, we’re delighted to see she was purchased by Yulong, she’s clearly going to a good home,’’ Martin said.

“It’s an outstanding result, an exceptional outcome for everybody. Inglis Digital is a quality platform and this is a quality result.’’

The first 16 lots of the February (Late) Sale was the Godolphin draft, which grossed just shy of $900,000, to the delight of Godolphin’s Racing and Bloodstock Manager Jason Walsh.

“It’s a very, very pleasing result,’’ Walsh said.

“It speaks to the strength of the Inglis Digital platform, which is a wonderful avenue to disperse horses.

“We were very pleased to see some very loyal clients hit the buyer sheet again and I wish all the new owners the best of luck with the horses moving forward.’’

Entries are now open for the March (Early) Online Sale, which will run from March 3-8.

Entries close next Wednesday, March 1 at midnight.
