Classic Success for Father and Son

Media Release - Sunday February 12

It was a good start to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Sunday for father and son duo Zoustar and Zousain with the former posting the top selling filly of the session while the latter had the highest priced yearling for a first season sire.

Zousain made a splash early when his colt from Sonnenblume sold for $320,000 to Clarken Racing from South Australia to become his highest priced colt sold this year.

$320,000 Zousain colt from Sonnenblume

Consigned by Carramar Park, the handsome chestnut colt was bred by Wayne and Pauline Alchin and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Garibaldi from good producing Exceed and Excel mare  Sonnenblume, a half-sister to Group I winner Shinzig from another Group I winner in Shindig.

Sonnenblume is a sister to the dam of this season’s two year-old stakes-winner Arkansaw Kid, so it’s a very current family bristling with new winners and stakes horses.

“He’s a beautiful colt and we were very happy with that price,” said Wayne Alchin.

“We were hoping get about 200k, so to get 320k was outstanding and we wish Will Clarken all the best with him and we’re glad he’s staying in Australia so we can follow him.”

Zoustar had the top selling filly in the opening session with the Tyreel Stud consigned daughter of Group III winning Written Tycoon mare Written Dash snapped up for $340,000 by Rock The Runway / Chris Waller Racing.

She is a half-sister to Group II placed Osamu and her dam is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Diamonds from the family of Group I winner Sizzling.
