Rubick 3YO Wins G2 Autumn Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 11

A $130,000 Inglis Classic purchase, dashing grey Rubick gelding Glint of Silver rose to the challenge at his first attempt at Black Type company, holding off a wall of pursuers to win the Group II MRC Autumn Stakes (1400m) at Sandown on Saturday.

Trained in Sydney by David Pfieffer, Glint of Silver won his maiden at Canterbury in December and was then sixth and second at his two subsequent runs at Randwick and Kembla.

Ridden a confident race from a good gate by Blake Shinn, Glint of Silver pulled out all stops under pressure to win by half a length taking his overall record to two wisn and five palcigns from 12 starts with prizemoney in excess of $260,000.

“We had him entered in quite a few places and then  we saw the noms were light on for this race and  then at acceptance we saw quite a few horses were first up and we’re deep into our preparation so we had good fitness,” said Pfieffer, who was more hopeful than confident coming in to the race.

“The instructions were to ride him like the fittest horse in the race and it worked!”

Glint of Silver was a $130,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Fairview Park.

Consigned by Fairview Park and bought by Koolman Bloodstock / Pfieffer Racing, Glint of Silver is the best of three winners from Blue Ruby, a metro winning Lonhro half-sister to the dam of Group II winner Chain of Lightning from Group II winner Mardi’s Magic.

Further back this is the family of Champion Miler Racing to Win and Everest winner Classique Legend, who are also grey in colour like Glint of Silver.

Blue Ruby has a yearling filly by Wandjina and was covered again last spring by Rubick.

Glint of Silver is the eighth stakes-winner for Rubick, who stands at Swettenham Stud and covered 155 mares last spring in his first year in Victoria after relocating from Coolmore.

He is bred along similar lines to Rubick’s Group I winning son Jacquinot, who is from a daughter of Lonhro’s champion son Pierro.
