Take the Tip

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 10

The success of champion European sprinter Harry Angel (IRE), who is currently leading the Australian first season sires list, will have many investors looking closely at another Darley shuttler in Blue Point (IRE), who was last week installed favourite to be leading first season flat sire in GB and Ireland by winners.

Blue Point was quoted as a 2-1 favourite by Paddy Power ahead of Coolmore’s No Nay Never stallion Ten Sovereigns with Darley’s other heavy hitter Too Darn Hot (GB) given out at 14-1.

A champion sprinter by Shamardal, who achieved good success when shuttling to Australia, Blue Point was a very fast two year-old that had six starts as a juvenile for three wins and three placings before training on to compete successfully at three, four and five.

He peaked as a five year-old winning three Group I sprints, notably the big Royal Ascot double of King’s Stand Stakes and Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Both Blue Point and Too Darn Hot were well received at Magic Millions and both are represented at Inglis Classic.

Blue Point was the leading first season sire by average at the Gold Coast with 16 yearlings averaging $378,125, while Too Darn Hot had 14 average $276,786, but he did have the single highest result for a freshman sire when his filly from Enbihaar sold for $1million.

Blue Point has seven yearlings at Classic.

Too Darn Hot has 12 yearlings at Classic.
