Fastnet Fillies Star Broodmares of the Future

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 1

We’ve had two major yearling sales in our region so far and the first (Magic Millions )was topped by an I Am Invincible colt from Fastnet Rock mare Anaheed that sold for $2.7million and the second (Karaka Book 1) was topped by a $1million Fastnet Rock filly from Test the World.

Turning 22 this year, Fastnet Rock is in the twilight of his magnificent stud career, but his influence as a sire has never been greater and the legacy ultimately left behind will cast a long shadow.

Fastnet Rock is a mover on the Australian broodmare sires list this season and has sired the dams of 10 stakes-winners, which is only one less than the division leader Encosta de Lago.

His stakes-winners as a broodmare sire are: G1 Zougotcha (Zoustar), G3 Literary Magnate (Written Tycoon), G3 Platinum Jubilee (Zoustar), G3 Renaissance Woman (Reliable Man (GB), G3 Queen of the Ball (I Am Invincible), G3 Learning to Fly (Justify (USA), G3 De Sonic Boom (Spirit of Boom), Fast Witness (Star Witness), Better Get Set (Better Than Ready) and Mission Phoenix (Reset).

In the same time period from August 1 last year he has also sired the dams of a further six stakes-winners in the Northern Hemisphere headed by US Group I winner Rhea Moon (Starspangledbanner).

It’s no wonder Fastnet Rock fillies are in hot demand and there are several opportunities at upcoming sales starting with Inglis Classic where there is just one of his daughters to be offered. Kia Ora Stud will present Lot 494, the second foal of US Group III winner Insta Erma (USA).

Inglis Premier also features one filly by Fastnet Rock with Newhaven Park to offer Lot 207, a filly from Turf Fairy, a placed half-sister to Champion 2YO Filly Fashions Afield.

Inglis Easter will showcase three fillies by Fastnet Rock.

Lot 101 from Lime Country Thoroughbreds on behalf of Peachester Lodge is the half-sister to Group I NZ Thousand Guineas winner Media Sensation from Different To.

Lot 337 from Coolmore as agent for Morning Rise Stud is the second foal of Group I NZ Oaks winner Savvy Coup.

Lot 338 from Middlebrook Valley Lodge is the half-sister to Group I ATC Australian Derby winner Angel of Truth from Scarletini.
