Tick Tock Lady Opens Account for San Padre

Mark Smith - Wednesday January 18

Making her career debut as a four-year-old, the Grahame Begg-trained Tick Tock Lady opened her winning account over 1300m at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday to kick-start 92nd birthday celebrations for Begg’s legendary father, Neville.

Given a rail-hugging ride by Jordan Childs, Tick Tock Lady did not go around a horse in defeating Red Fox (Foxwedge) by three-quarter lengths. It was a further one and three-quarter lengths back to Devoted Poet (GB) (Iffraaj), who finished strongly from last at his Australian debut.

“I thought she stuck it out well. She has plenty to learn, but has upside,” stable representative Danielle Henwood said.

“She will definitely get over more ground, considering how she finished off today, and she relished the soft conditions, which is a bonus.”

Tick Tock Lady races for Peter Fusca’s Grandview Thoroughbreds after failing to make her $15,000 reserve at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale.

She is the first winner from four named foals from the first crop of the unheralded Teofilo (IRE) stallion San Padre.

A $250,000 purchase for Mick Kent at the 2013 Inglis Premier Sale, San Padre won on debut at Sale, then started in four stakes races but was destined not to win again.

Tick Tock Lady is the first of two foals from the winning Al Samer mare Lady’s Taste, whose final foal is a 2yo brother to Tick Tock Lady named Rusty Gold.
